
Brian Hughes has been the Chief Coach at the famous voluntary run Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club in north Manchester for over 45 years. During this period, he has he has consistently produced some of Britain’s best boxers, many who have achieved British, European, Commonwealth and World championship honours. He has also coached a string of national champions at schoolboy, junior and senior levels as well as Olympic representatives.
He is also a Manchester United supporter and an esteemed historian of the club; he has written a number of best selling books about legendary Manchester United figures including Tommy Taylor, Dennis Violet, Jimmy Murphy and Denis Law. He has also written a trilogy of biographies about the three great Manchester fight favourites, Jackie Brown, Johnny King and Jock McAvoy and two additional biographies about boxing legends Willie Pep and Howard Winstone.
He was awarded a MBE in 2000 for his services to boxing and the community.
He lives in Manchester with his wife Rosemarie. He has three sons, a daughter and grandson.
